Alyssa Milano is saying goodbye to her breast implants. On Wednesday, the 52-year-old actress shared a photo on Instagram of herself in a surgical cap and gown, along with a lengthy caption about the change she's making to her body.
"Today I'm releasing those false narratives, the parts of me that were never actually parts of me. I'm letting go of the body that was sexualized, that was abused, that I believed was necessary for me to be attractive; to be loved; to be successful; to be happy. And in doing so, I hope I am releasing my daughter Bella from ever feeling those same unhealthy demands," Milano wrote in her post. Milano shares daughter Elizabella "Bella" Dylan, 11, with husband David Bugliari.
Milano acknowledged that some people may find "freedom and beauty" when choosing breast implants and wrote that she is "so happy that we can all find our femininity and peace on our own terms." She also credited Michelle Visage, the RuPaul's Drag Race judge, for speaking openly about her own relationship to her breast implants.
"Today I am loved, I am feminine, I am attractive, and I am successful," the Charmed alum shared. "None of that is because of my implants. I will still be all of those things when I wake up and they are gone. There is so much and joy in that knowledge and freedom in letting go of what was never me in the first place."

Milano's peers in the entertainment industry shared their support for her in the comments section. Singer Carnie Wilson wrote, "I had mine removed in 2013 and I am so glad that I did it!!!!! Wishing you all the best you wonderful, beautiful human."
Lisa Ann Walter, of Abbott Elementary, added, "Happy for you, honey," while Visage herself commented, "I'M THRILLED FOR YOU! The heal is real baby! See you on the lighter side."
Stars are speaking out about breast implants
Milano is just one of the latest women in Hollywood to announce the decision to remove their breast implants for a variety of different reasons. Melissa Gilbert told People in 2018 that she had her breast implants removed three years earlier after choosing to embrace aging naturally. "What am I going to do when I'm in my 80s and I have to have a hip replacement but I also have my breast implants replaced?" she said. "Because it's inevitable, they have a life span. So I wanted them out."
Visage, meanwhile, has previously spoken about having her implants removed after being diagnosed with an autoimmune illness and growing concerned that her implants may be behind some of her symptoms.
Race car driver Danica Patrick has also been vocal about having her breast implants removed after she said she experienced symptoms such as weight gain, a loss of her menstrual cycle and hair changes, all of which she attributed to her implants. In 2021, High School Musical alum Ashley Tisdale also experienced symptoms that, she suspected, may have been linked to her breast implants and had them removed. Playboy models Crystal Hefner and Karen McDougal echoed similar reasons for having their breast implants removed. In 2016, Yolanda Hadid got her breast implants removed on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills after being diagnosed with Lyme disease and learning she had free-floating silicone in her body.
Currently, breast implant illness is not a recognized medical diagnosis, with doctors continuing to look into the symptoms that many people claim to experience following their surgery.
Meanwhile, One Tree Hill alum Jana Kramer said she regretted getting breast implants because she wasn't sure if she did it "solely" for herself. The actress explained on her Whine Down podcast in February that after learning of her then-husband Mike Caussin's repeated infidelity, she began comparing herself to other women. "When I was presented with it, I thought about it for a while, like, 'Maybe if I had bigger boobs, he wouldn't cheat, or he'd find me sexier or something like that,'" she recalled on the podcast.
