Following the runaway success of horror movie *Weapons*, director Zach Cregger confirms the early reports that a prequel movie focused on a younger Aunt Gladys is in the works.
"We're working on putting something together for that," Cregger tells ** in an interview for the movie's home release. "I have the story in my head," he adds. "The story is beat out. I haven't written it, but I'm working with another really talented writer, a good buddy of mine."
The filmmaker confirms he's working with Zach Shields, the scribe from *Godzilla vs. Kong*, *Godzilla: King of the Monsters*, and *Krampus*. "We've been beating the story out," Cregger continues. "And we'll see. It's really early days. I can't say too much about it, but I think it's gonna be great."

'Weapons' is first horror film of 2025 to top box office 3 weeks in a row, but 'KPop Demon Hunters' may be true winner
*The Hollywood Reporter* first revealed in mid-August that Warner Bros. and New Line were in talks with Cregger about a prequel film focusing on the origins of the top-secret character in *Weapons*, played by Amy Madigan. The trade also reported the material is based on a Gladys-centric chapter Cregger cut from the original film, but the director tells EW, "No, it's not" based on that.
*Weapons* is the story about how 17 children in the same classroom of the fictional Maybrook Elementary mysteriously woke from their beds at exactly 2:17 a.m. one morning, crept outside, and ran away into the night.
The mystery unfolds through shifting character perspectives: Ms. Justine Gandy (Julia Garner), the teacher of the missing students; Archer Graff (Josh Brolin), a father of one of the missing; Officer Paul Morgan (Alden Ehrenreich), a policeman and recovering alcoholic who has a romantic history with Justine; the school's Principal Marcus (Benedict Wong); and the young Alex Lilly (Cary Christopher), the one kid in Justine's class who didn't vanish.

In a separate interview with EW, Madigan shared her reaction to the intense audience love that emerged for the part of Gladys, which includes some Oscar nomination predictions.
"It's really nice because I felt my work is really good in this piece," the actress from *Field of Dreams* and *Uncle Buck* said. "I've been doing it a long time, so to get something that's this gratifying and people like it...it's fun. It's given me a good giggle, but as you're going up, you could come down just as quickly. So you have to take it with a grain of salt."
*Weapons* is now currently available to watch on digital retail platforms. The film will then be released on 4K UHD on Oct. 14.
