At age 11, Tim Allen lost his father in a car accident. He was unable to forgive the drunk driver responsible — until he listened to Charlie Kirk's widow's emotional eulogy.

At a Kirk's Sept. 21 memorial service, Erika Kirk said she chose to forgive Tyler Robinson, the suspect charged in the fatal shooting of the conservative activist on Sept. 10. She said it was what the Turning Point USA founder would have done.

"I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do," Erika Kirk said at the funeral in Glendale, Arizona. "The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the Gospel is love."

In an X post on Sept. 24, the 72-year-old "Home Improvement" actor said her words affected him profoundly and helped him find it within himself to choose forgiveness.

Actor and comedian Tim Allen stands on the sidelines prior to the game of the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on Dec 4, 2017 in Cincinnati.

"When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: 'That man… that young man… I forgive him.' That moment deeply affected me," Allen, 72, wrote.

"I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: 'I forgive the man who killed my father,'" he continued. "Peace be with you all."

Allen's father, real estate agent Gerald M. Dick, died in November 1964 while driving his wife and a car full of children home from a football game in Colorado. A driver swerved into a median on the I-70 and collided with his vehicle.

"(He) broke his neck and died in my mom's lap right there," Allen said in a 2006 episode of the "Inside the Actors Studio" talk show. "As many times as I'd relive this — if you haven't had a death in your family, I don't suggest it — but it certainly changes every single thing. From your cells and DNA, it turns a different color."

At the time he said he hated November and the fall season ever since and developed a sense of guilt for not being in the vehicle when the accident occurred. The experience later prompted him to go to therapy.

"Every single thing in my life changed. And I knew it the moment he was dead that he was dead," Allen said.
