- The White House has reacted to *The View*'s discussion of Jimmy Kimmel's suspension on Monday's episode in an exclusive statement to EW.
- White House Communications Director Steven Cheung slammed the hosts, calling them "irrelevant has-beens and never-beens" that are "devoid of actual talent."
- He also claimed that ABC "kicked [Kimmel] to the curb like a used empty beer can" due to his "tanking ratings" and for "spewing disgusting lies to his audience."
The White House is slamming* The View *and its hosts once again after they discussed fellow ABC personality Jimmy Kimmel's suspension on Monday's episode. **
When reached for comment, Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, exclusively tells * *that he considers Kimmel to be a "no-talent loser" and *The View* hosts to be "a collection of irrelevant has-beens and never-beens" alike. **
"Jimmy Kimmel is a no-talent loser who has beclowned himself with tanking ratings and by spewing disgusting lies to his audience," Cheung says. "That's why the network kicked him to the curb like a used empty beer can."
He continues, "Similarly, *The View* is also devoid of actual talent, and is a collection of irrelevant has-beens and never-beens that nobody with any commonsense [*sic*] would ever watch unless it was to laugh at them."**
A representative for *The View* did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Last Wednesday, ABC made the decision to pull *Jimmy Kimmel Live* off the air indefinitely after the late-night host commented about the "MAGA gang" and its reaction to Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the Sept. 10 assassination of far-right conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel, who has yet to comment on the suspension, will return to the air on Tuesday, ABC announced Monday.**
Kimmel remarked on Wednesday's show, "We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it."
The decision to put the show on pause came just hours after FCC chair Brendan Carr made a podcast appearance during which he called for broadcast affiliates to preempt the show and that ABC's parent company Disney reprimand Kimmel for participating in "some of the sickest conduct possible."**** On Monday, *The View *hosts addressed the suspension and clarified why they chose to refrain from talking about the situation on Thursday and Friday's episodes despite it being a trending topic. "Now, look, did y'all really think we weren't gonna talk about Jimmy Kimmel?" Whoopi Goldberg began. "I mean, have you watched this show over the last 29 seasons? So you know no one silences us."

'View' star Sunny Hostin slams FBI director Kash Patel as 'despicable' and 'not qualified'
She continued, "When the news broke last week about Jimmy Kimmel's suspension, we took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first. We did the same thing with Stephen Colbert. Then our show was on tape on Friday. But we are live here today and we're getting into it now."**
Goldberg emphasized that the government "cannot apply pressure to force someone to be silenced" and claimed that President Donald Trump doesn't "know how the First Amendment works" after he suggested that programs that were "against me" should have their TV licenses revoked. In the days since Kimmel's suspension, Carr also floated the idea that it would be "worthwhile" for the agency to "look into" *The View*, and has talked about "consequences" for the show in the past.

"Freedom of speech undergirds our democracy and our founders were very, very clear on that," *The View* cohost and legal expert Sunny Hostin said Monday. "Our founders drafted the First Amendment specifically to protect the rights of citizens who criticize the government."**
Ana Navarro added that she's lived through both right-wing and left-wing dictatorship in Nicaragua and that "this is what dictators and authoritarians do." She continued, "It does not matter the ideology. t first, they come for the people with big platforms. At first, they silence the press. But then they come for all of us. Because their intent is to scare us into silence and self-censorship." **

And Alyssa Farah Griffin — who previously served as the White House director of strategic communications during Trump's first term — warned that it's important to remember the precedent that a decision like this sets given that "the pendulum swings in this country" both ways. **
"Donald Trump is not going to be in power for 100 years. It may feel that way to a lot of people right now," she said. "There will be a time that the left is back in power and I think the same conservatives that are backing this position, this crackdown on free speech, do not want a left-wing president policing what can be said on TV, how you can criticize your government. Think about the precedent it sets down the road."
The *View* hosts aren't the only ones criticizing the decision to preempt* Jimmy Kimmel Live*, with past and present late-night hosts including Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, David Letterman, and Jay Leno among those also sharing their thoughts in recent days.
This isn't the first time that the White House has hit back at* The View* over its comments. Last month, after Rosie O'Donnell shared her concerns about the talk show being shuttered due to growing political tensions, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers suggested that Joy Behar should move out of the country. **
"Rosie O'Donnell and 'Joyless' Behar are irrelevant losers with too much time on their hands, whining about a failing talk show while everyday Americans are working hard," Rogers said in part. "Our country is better off with Rosie living abroad — and we can all hope 'Joyless' Behar will join her next!"
