Freshman soap opera *Beyond the Gates*, which debuted in February, has killed off its first major character: Doug McBride.

Played by actor Jason Graham, McBride is a gambling addict and former surgeon married to Lauren Buglioli's Vanessa. He met his demise in a car crash on Thursday's episode, after dozens of appearances beginning with the pilot.

His onscreen wife shared footage of Graham's last words to the cast and crew, in which he grinned as everyone clapped and cheered for him.

"I love you all," Graham said. "You guys are family, for life."

Buglioli added, "I love you husband!"

Other people who work on the show wrote goodbyes in the comments, including Jon Lindstrom, who portrays Joey Armstrong. He wrote that Graham was "one of the best I've ever had the honor to play with. Thank you."

Per TV Line, Michele Val Jean, the creator of the CBS show, commented on the post, "I'm a horrible person."

Those messages suggested that the actor's death is final, although a death is not always as it appears on soaps.

In addition to his role in *Beyond the Gates*, Graham has appeared in shows including *All My Children*, *9-1-1*, *7th Heaven*, *Being Mary Jane*, and *Grey's Anatomy*.

In its seven months on the air, *Beyond the Gates* has staged crossover episodes with two of its fellow series on the network. In August, *The Young and The Restless*' music exec Devon Winters (Bryton James) stopped by to visit Anita (Tamara Tunie), as she reunited with her former girl group.

Actor Thorsten Kaye, who plays Ridge Forrester on *The Bold and the Beautiful*, is expected to make an appearance on *Beyond the Gates* in an upcoming episode. The network teased that actress Karla Mosley (Dani) and Kaye's Forrester will find a "promising connection."**
