Taylor Swift trolls herself in new album promo
No one knows how to troll Taylor Swift like Taylor Swift does.
In a pair of promos shared to social media on Monday in support of her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl (out Friday), the singer pokes some major fun at herself.
In the clips, which specifically promote the recently announced The Crowd is Your King Target-exclusive vinyl edition of the album, Swift plays double duty as the director of an album shoot and as the titular showgirl.
In one, Swift, holding a glittery pink megaphone, yells instructions to Showgirl Taylor.

"All right, we are still rolling, we're gonna try this again," she says, all business. "We're elegant, we're luxurious, we're in front of the most beautiful pink vinyl we've ever seen. What is going on with the posture? It's giving no-girl, not showgirl. What are we doing?"
The scene then cuts to Showgirl Taylor, who stands in a pink corset and matching heels as she attempts to throw some pink glitter into the air, but steps clumsily backward instead, as Director Taylor admonishes her, "Elegance, charm — not that."
As an aside to someone offscreen, Director Taylor then whispers, "She's got cat hair all over her. Is there a school we could very quickly send her to?"
Possibly referring to one of the album's 12 tracks, "Honey," Director Taylor then tells her showgirl alter ego, "Come on, honey, this is show business."
"The Life of a Showgirl," Swift concludes in a voiceover. "Exclusive edition, only at Target. And, it has a pretty big poster with it, too."
Swift posted a separate set of outtakes in her Instagram Stories on Monday. In it, she's even more annoyed with her showgirl alter ego, telling her, "We are still rolling; in fact, I was just waiting for you to get it together. There's not enough coffee in the world."

Then, she audibly groans at the showgirl's performance and calls curtains on it all. "And that's gonna have to do. Thank you so much, thanks for coming in. Bye."

The cheeky videos are the latest in a long line of promo for the hotly anticipated record. The 12-track album releases Oct. 3 and will be heralded by a three-day-only movie event, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which promises the debut of the music video for lead single "The Fate of Ophelia," as well as behind-the-scenes footage from that video shoot, insights into all the album's songs, and lyric videos. A Spotify pop-up experience in New York City starts Tuesday.
And, so far, Swift has announced three upcoming late-night TV appearances, beginning with a stop by The Graham Norton Show Oct. 3, followed by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Oct. 6, and Late Night With Seth Meyers on Oct. 8.
