- Dolly Parton will not accept her honorary Oscar in person at the Governors Awards in November.
- However, a representative for the singer says her absence from the ceremony has been planned since June.
- The rep also said Parton is missing the event due to a scheduling conflict, not health concerns.
Dolly Parton will not accept her honorary Oscar in person.
The "9 to 5" singer and *9 to 5* star is set to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which will be presented at the Oscar organization's Governors Awards ceremony in Los Angeles in November.
Parton will not attend the ceremony and is expected to give her acceptance speech remotely from Nashville.
But despite previous reporting to the contrary, the "Jolene" singer's planned absence from the Governors Awards is unrelated to any health concerns, a representative for Parton tells **.

The rep also maintains that Parton's team informed AMPAS of a scheduling conflict in June — the same month the Academy announced the singer as the recipient of the humanitarian award. Additionally, the representative says he suggested postponing the ceremony a year so Parton could attend in person.
Reps for the Academy did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment Tuesday.
The news of Parton's in-person absence from the Governors Awards comes just two days after the musician announced that she is postponing six concerts in Las Vegas due to "some health challenges" that will require her to undergo "a few procedures." All six shows were previously set for the first half of December, and will now take place in September 2026.

"I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see," Parton said in a statement posted to Instagram on Sunday. "You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you. While I'll still be able to work on all of my projects from here in Nashville, I just need a little time to get show ready, as they say."
As for the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, it's given to "an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry by promoting human welfare and contributing to rectifying inequities," according to the Academy's website.
Parton is being honored for her various philanthropic endeavors, including the Dollywood Foundation, which has promoted childhood literacy across the country since 1995.

Parton is the sole recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award this year. The award is not bestowed every year and typically only goes to one honoree at a given ceremony, though Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn both received it just weeks after the latter's death in 1993.
Previous Hollywood figures who have received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award include Bob Hope, Gregory Peck, Frank Sinatra, Danny Kaye, Paul Newman, Quincy Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie, Geena Davis, Danny Glover, and Michael J. Fox. It most recently went to *Love Actually* filmmaker Richard Curtis last year.

This year's Governors Awards will also honor Tom Cruise, choreographer-actress-producer Debbie Allen, and production designer Wynn Thomas. All three filmmakers will receive the Honorary Award, which is given "to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy."**
