Bad Bunny was at a very fitting location when he learned that he'd be headlining the next Super Bowl halftime show: the gym. **

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican singer and rapper, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, revealed during an interview with Apple Music on Monday morning that he was actually working out when he got the call from Jay-Z. **

"It's crazy because I was in the middle of a workout, so I remember that after the call, I just did 100 pull-ups," Bad Bunny said. "I was like [excited]. I didn't need more pre-workout s--- or whatever, I was like [pumped up]. It was very special."

Jay-Z has programmed the Super Bowl halftime show as part of an ongoing partnership between Roc Nation and the NFL to "enhance the NFL's live game experiences and to amplify the league's social justice efforts." The multi-year contract between both groups was extended in 2024.

When asked about hosting the halftime show, Bad Bunny explained that he found himself getting unexpectedly emotional about the achievement while showing one of his friends the announcement video yesterday.

"I saw his reaction and he was so excited and… as I said, I'm really excited, but this is making me feel so happy [for] more than me, for everyone else," he said. "I'm really excited for my friends, my family, Puerto Rico, all the Latino people around the world. I'm excited about my culture. I'm excited about everything — not just for me. You know what I'm saying? It feels really good. "

During the conversation, Bad Bunny noted that he believed he was asked to headline the event because he does everything with heart. **

"I'm always doing my best and working with so much passion and also I'm still working… I'm a rookie," he confessed. "I'm still hungry to conquer and to show what I can do to the people. It's crazy because I think everyone already knows what I'm capable of, but I still want to surprise and [say,], 'Look, I can do this!'
