Week 8 in the NFL was a big one for some of the most wretched teams in the league, as struggling teams like the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens picked up much-needed wins.
But it also took a tough turn, as New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo exited Sunday's loss with a grisly ankle injury. Skattebo was diagnosed with a dislocated ankle and was taken to the hospital for additional testing and surgery. It's unclear how long Skattebo will be out, but the injury likely marks the end of the season for the dynamic rookie.
The Ravens might be seeing the return of Lamar Jackson, who returned to limited practice last week but was ruled out for Sunday's game. Jackson hasn't played since suffering a hamstring injury last month, with the Ravens' losing streak extending to four games with their QB1 out. But Baltimore's season isn't quite dead yet, with backup Tyler Huntley pulling the team to a win over the Bears.
Meanwhile, even as the San Francisco 49ers' injury woes slightly improve, there are still questions around quarterback Brock Purdy's return. Purdy returned to practice last week, but was still limited, and it's unclear whether he'll be back to full strength this week. Backup Mac Jones is doing his best in the meantime, but wasn't able to lift San Francisco to a win over the Texans, settling for a 26-15 loss in Houston.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley left the team's Week 8 game early due to a groin injury, but he isn't expected to be out for long. Barkley's groin injury is not believed to be serious, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
If the game were closer, Barkley may have returned and played, per Rapoport.

Barkley and the Eagles are on bye in Week 9, giving the running back an additional week to recover. For now, it sounds like the All-Pro should be good to go when the team returns to the field in Week 10.

The New York Giants will be without their leading rusher moving forward, as rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 8, all but officially knocking him out for the remainder of the 2025 season.
He was carted off the field Sunday with his ankle supported in an aircast. Skattebo underwent surgery for the injury on Sunday evening in the Philadelphia area, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.
The injury is another heartbreaking blow for the Giants, who have found a spark with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart behind center. Star receiver Malik Nabers is already out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in Week 4. As a rookie, Nabers tallied 109 receptions for 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns despite catching passes from a combination of Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, Tanner McKee and Tim Boyle.
Next up in the lineup will be second-year RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. and veteran Devin Singletary, though neither may be particularly relevant for fantasy football.
As the focal point of the run game in 2024, Tracy finished as the RB32 in fantasy points per game in half-PPR scoring formats, exceeding 15 fantasy points just twice last season despite leading the team in rushing attempts, yards and touchdowns.
