Jodi Picoult isn't willing to be silenced by book bans.

A best-selling author of 29 novels, Picoult took to social media this week to unpack the results of a new study on banned books for the 2024-2025 school year—and unsurprisingly, she was ranked among the highest banned authors on the list.

Picoult, 59, shared the findings of PEN America, a nonprofit organization that advocates against censorship, to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Oct. 1, revealing that she was ranked #4 on the list of banned authors.

According to the new data, books written by Picoult were banned on a total of 62 instances over the past academic year, making her fourth-highest on the list. Those ranked above Picoult include Sarah J. Mass with 162 total incidents, Ellen Hopkins with 167 and Stephen King with a whopping 206.

"#4 this year," Picoult wrote in her post, before she sarcastically added, "Clearly I'm a slacker."

Last October, Picoult's book Nineteen Minutes was among the most banned books for the 2023-2024 school year. The best-selling novel centers around a tragic school shooting at a New Hampshire high school and the complicated aftermath that follows.

Nineteen Minutes is one of Picoult's most frequently banned titles, but other books on this year's list features 23 novels by Picoult, including Small Great Things (2016), which touches on racial prejudice in America, and Mad Honey (2022), which features a transgender main character.

Other banned titles by Picoult include My Sister's Keeper, Vanishing Acts, The Tenth Circle, The Storyteller and more.

Picoult has previously been outspoken about the danger book-banning, speaking out against literary censorship at the Hay Festival in May 2024. At the time, Picoult said that having a book banned as an author is "not a badge of honor," and that "the loss of free speech is a very, very slippery slope."
