Jennifer Lopez no longer has any expectations when it comes to awards buzz.

The actress and singer, 56, is garnering Oscar buzz once again for her work in Bill Condon's upcoming musical drama *Kiss of the Spider-Woman*, an adaptation of the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig of the same name and the Tony Award-winning Broadway production.

In an expansive interview with *CBS Sunday Morning*, Lopez said she no longer concerns herself with awards buzz when asked by Lee Cowan where she placed those expectations.

"You've been in this spot before where folks are hinting about Oscars and other big awards," Cowan noted. "Where do you put those expectations?"**

"I don't, I don't. I learned my lesson last time," Lopez said. "But also I think the joy, for me, is in doing it. Every single moment. It's great to be in the conversation. Like, you're doing work that people recognize and love. That's enough."

"It's not that you can't want more or that you don't wanna stand up there and say thank you," Lopez added. "Of course we all want that. But I realized that I don't need it in the way that maybe I thought when I was younger."

She then quickly quipped, "Not that I wouldn't love it! I just wanna do that little disclaimer." Lopez added with a laugh, "I'd be very grateful for that too."**

In theaters Oct. 10, *Kiss of the Spider-Woman* concerns two political prisoners (Diego Luna and Tonatiuh) who form an unlikely bond over a Hollywood musical plot starring a diva by the name of Ingrid Luna (Lopez). Gold Derby recently reported that Lopez will campaign for Best Supporting Actress at the 2026 Academy Awards.**

It comes after the upset of 2019's *Hustlers,* in which Lopez was famously snubbed by members of the Academy for her role as Ramona, the head of a group of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their wealthy Wall Street clients. Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, and Lili Reinhart also star in the film inspired by a true story.

Lopez — who received a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nomination for the role, among other accolades — acknowledged the disappointment of the snub in her 2022 Netflix documentary Halftime.

"The truth is I really started to think I was gonna get nominated. I got my hopes up because so many people were telling me I would be," Lopez reflected in the doc. "And then it didn't happen."

"I had to ask myself, 'What does that mean?'" she continued. "I do this not for an award or do my hits up there and seem like I'm the best performer in the world. No, I do this to tell stories and to effect change and to connect with people and make them feel things because I wanna feel something. That's why I do it."

"I needed to go through the Oscar snub," Lopez added, in order to realize that she didn't "need that." She said, "I'm actually here and I am okay and I am enough. I don't need this award right here to tell me I'm enough."

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — China has named Liu Haixing, a diplomat with experience in European affairs, at the top of its International Department, state media said Wednesday.

He replaces Liu Jianchao, who has not been seen in public since July amid speculation he has been detained over disciplinary reasons.

The International Department is the Communist Party's diplomatic arm, tasked with establishing connections with political parties in other countries.

Liu Haixing, 62, spent much of his career serving in a variety of diplomatic positions in Europe. Between 2009 and 2012, he was a minister with the Chinese Embassy in France, where he had earlier studied public administration, according to his resume, posted on the Foreign Ministry's website.

Upon his return to Beijing, he served as assistant foreign minister and director-general of the Department of European Affairs.

His last posting was that of executive vice-director of the general office of the National Security Commission of the Communist Party's Central Committee, a top ruling body.

His appointment, which was announced earlier on the International Department's website, raises questions about the whereabouts of his predecessor, Liu Jianchao.

Liu Jianchao, who is unrelated to Liu Haixing, had served as head of the International Department since June 2022. He had traveled extensively abroad as part of China's post-pandemic diplomatic drive, and his name was circulated as a potential new foreign minister.

Liu Jianchao has not been seen in public since late July, after he returned from a work trip abroad. The Wall Street Journal reported sources saying he has been detained for questioning as part of a disciplinary probe.

His disappearance followed the high-profile vanishing in June 2023 of then-Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who had only gotten the job seven months earlier. His predecessor, Wang Yi, returned to the posting.

The Journal reported that an internal party investigation had found that Qin had engaged in an extra-marital affair during his previous stint as Beijing's ambassador to Washington.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has led a relentless campaign of disciplinary purges since his appointment in 2012. More than 6 million officials have been punished for corruption and misconduct, though critics say he has also used the campaign to remove some of his opponents and consolidate power.

MOSCOW (Reuters) -Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev mocked U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that the United States had not sent nuclear submarines to Russian shores as Trump had promised.

Trump on Tuesday cast Medvedev as "a stupid person" and said that he had moved a "submarine or two" to the coast of Russia. He said in August that he had ordered two nuclear submarines to be moved to the "appropriate regions" in response to threats from Medvedev.

"New episode of the thriller series," Medvedev said on X in English. "Trump once again brought up the subs he allegedly 'sent to the Russian shores' insisting they are 'very well hidden."

"As the saying goes, it's hard to find a black cat in a dark room — especially if it's not there," Medvedev said.

Dancing With The Stars just wrapped their first-ever TikTok night — and fans are absolutely furious over the shocking elimination.

The twelve remaining couples performed a variety of dance styles to popular TikTok hits, and when it came time to read the results, hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough revealed Andy Richter & Emma Slater, Lauren Jauregui & Brandon Armstrong, and Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten as the bottom three for the night.

In a surprising twist, Jauregui and Armstrong were sent home — despite being considered frontrunners for the Mirrorball Trophy.

Immediately following the announcement, Jauregui was asked how she felt about her elimination, to which she responded in one word: Pissed. Pro dancer Slater appeared to apologize to Armstrong as the credits rolled.

DWTS fans also took to X to express their disappointment that the Fifth Harmony singer was leaving after just three weeks of competition.

"Lauren Jauregui might have just cemented herself as the most robbed Dancing With The Stars contestant in history," wrote one fan. "I would like to report a crime. Lauren just got robbed on live television." joked another.

"A #dwts elimination hasn't pissed me off like this in sooo long WHAT R WE DOING," added a third. "Lauren being sent home when she was one of the most beautiful and captivating dancers there…" said a fourth.

Many fans questioned how Hilaria Baldwin & Gleb Savchenko continued to advance in the competition, despite growing backlash over her previous dance experience. Others blamed the judges for giving Jauregui the same score as Richter this week, arguing that her dance was much stronger than the comedian's.

After the first two weeks of competition, Jauregui and Armstrong were tied in third with Alix Earle & Val Chmerkovskiy and Jen Affleck & Jan Ravnik for the highest cumulative scores. The only couples above them on the leaderboard were Baldwin & Savchenko, Whitney Leavitt & Mark Ballas, and Robert Irwin & Witney Carson.

Dancing With The Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.

Social media can seem like one massive magic show... Except, instead of rabbits coming out of hats, it's waists that have been snatched, cheekbones rising from nowhere, or frown-lines vanishing without the use of Botox or a painful facelift.

With just enough Photoshop, Facetune, and a filter (or five), people have been morphing from ordinary humans into glowing, flawless creatures who look like they've just stepped out of a video game. Whether it's living and breathing Barbies or lips that look like they've just lost a fight with a bee, social media is filled with photos that might have had us fooled had reality not reared its less-than-perfect head.

Bored Panda has compiled a list of the most hilarious and embarrassing times people tried too hard to catfish the internet, and got caught in the act. Many of these social media vs reality fails prove that while filters might blur the truth, they can't erase the sheer audacity (and comedy) that comes with fooling no one.

We might laugh at some of the audacious, over-edited images in this compilation. But the over-use of editing tools and apps is quite a serious matter...

85% of girls have applied filters or used an app to change the way they look in their photos - before they even turned 13. And 67% of girls have tried to change, or hide, at least one body part before posting a photo of themselves to social media.

That's according to the Dove Self-Esteem Project, which aims to promote confidence and body positivity among young girls.

"Although certain aspects of social media can promote connection and well-being, in recent years dozens of scientific studies have shown that social media can negatively influence body confidence, mood, and self-esteem," warns body image expert, Professor Phillippa Diedrichs, who is a Research Psychologist at the Centre of Appearance Research at the University of West England.

Diedrichs explains that this happens when users spend significant amounts of time posting selfies, using editing apps and filters to alter their appearance, comparing themselves to others, and seeking validation through comments and likes.

"It's therefore imperative that we help young people to develop skills to navigate social media in a healthy and productive way," the expert said.

The age of Facetuning has brought us something known as Snapchat dysmorphia. If you've never heard of it, it's a medical phenomenon whereby social media filters have led to a rising number of women going to plastic surgeons asking to look like the filtered versions of themselves.

"Previously, patients would come into clinics with pictures of celebrities or models they admired and wanted to look like," explains Dr Esho, cosmetic doctor at The Esho Clinic. "But with the introduction of social platforms and filters over the last five years, more and more patients come into clinics with filtered versions of themselves as the goal they want to achieve."

A British photographer called Rankin once explored the harmful effects of retouching apps in his photo series titled "Selfie Harm."

Rankin photographed a group of teenagers and then asked them to edit their own portrait until it was "social media ready." What he discovered was that many of the participants seemed to magnify their eyes and overplump their lips.

"It's so simple, almost like creating a cartoon character of yourself," Rankin said. "These filters are something very new and, in my opinion, a lot more dangerous. What's even scarier is that there's little or no debate happening around this. Something like Photoshop, which is a much more complex and inaccessible program, is actually part of a huge social ethical discussion."

"What's interesting is that the individuals didn't necessarily like or prefer the edited versions of themselves, but simply felt the retouched image would garner more likes on their social media platforms," notes Fashionroundtable.co.uk.

During the project, none of the girls left their photos unedited. But the majority said they preferred the untouched images.

"Today's generation can't escape 'the Truman effect' because from birth they are born into an age of social platforms where their feelings of self-worth can be based purely on the number of likes and followers that they have, which is linked to how good they look or how great these images are," warns cosmetic surgeon Dr. Esho.

"It's time to acknowledge the damaging effects that social media has on people's self-image," adds Rankin on Instagram. "It's just another reason why we are living in a world of FOMO, sadness, increased anxiety, and Snapchat dysmorphia."
