This weekend, there is a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Southern California. Temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees in Arizona and Texas. But on the other side of the globe in Australia, it is a winter wonderland.
Residents of New South Wales were hit with a stunning snowstorm at the beginning of August that dropped as much as 16 inches of powder in some areas. Now, less than a month later, heavy snow has returned.
A snow report from the Mount Buller Ski Resort in Victoria measured a massive 21 inches that fell in two days. Mount Buller is roughly 125 miles northeast of Melbourne, Australia.
Winter in the southern hemisphere officially lasts from June 1 until August 31. That means this latest storm is arriving on the second to last day of the season.
Snow fell at lower elevations not too far west of Sydney, too. In some areas, it was the most significant snowfall in several years.
This latest snowstorm and matching freezing temperatures came straight from Antarctica.
