Julianne Nicholson opens up to PEOPLE about husband Jonathan Cake having "so much chemistry" with Sarah Jessica Parker on And Just Like That...

"I wanted him to come back so they could be together and she could live happily ever after," she says of Cake and Parker's characters, Duncan Reed and Carrie Bradshaw

The Sex and the City revival series came to a close after three seasons earlier this month

Julianne Nicholson doesn't mind sharing husband Jonathan Cake with Carrie Bradshaw.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the inaugural Televerse Festival in Los Angeles on Aug. 16, the actress, 54, admits she thought Cake, who turns 58 on Aug. 31, had "so much chemistry" with Sarah Jessica Parker when he played Duncan Reeves on And Just Like That… season 3.

"I wanted him to come back so they could be together and she could live happily ever after," she says.

While Nicholson admits it's "very weird to be cheering your husband on having chemistry with another woman," she thinks his character "was the best thing about the season."

"I thought he was so sparkly and relaxed and charming. I was like, 'Okay, come on,'" she adds of her spouse, whom she married in 2004 and with whom she shares two children. "I was excited for him."

Jonathan Cake and Sarah Jessica Parker on 'And Just Like That...'Cake joined the Sex and the City revival series for its third — and final — season.

The actor, who previously appeared on Desperate Housewives and Stargirl, had a five-episode arc as Carrie's downstairs neighbor, Duncan, a noted British author working on a book about former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Duncan and Carrie initially got off on the wrong foot — literally — as he complained about her walking around the upstairs townhome in her high heels while he was trying to sleep during the day.

The two eventually bonded over their writing, trading notes about each other's work. Following Carrie's breakup with Aiden Shaw (John Corbett), the two had a brief fling before Duncan returned to London.

Cake previously reflected on his time on And Just Like That… and shared his thoughts on the show ending.

Following the news that the Sex and the City continuation series would be ending with season 3, Cake took to Instagram to ask, "Wait, did I JUST KILL [the show]?"

He went on to call his experience on And Just Like That… an "exquisite pleasure while it lasted."

Cake praised Parker for giving fans "SUCH joy for nearly thirty years" as Carrie.

"I don't think there's a higher calling for people in our business," he wrote. "You knocked it out of the park and it's still traveling, traveling, traveling. Thank you for having me on your team for a hot - a very hot - minute. You're all brilliant."

Julianne Nicholson and Jonathan Cake at the 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards in Century City, California, on March 13, 2022Nicholson confirmed that Cake will be her date to the 2025 Emmys this September.

The actress, who already won an Emmy for her role in Mare of Easttown in 2021, is up for two Emmys this year.

Nicholson is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category for her role as Sinatra in Paradise as well as in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Dance Mom on Hacks.

If she wins again for either of these nominations, Nicholson says she wants to "talk about my husband more" in her speech.

"I feel like the first time, I was so nervous," she recalls. "There's a lot of people to mention, and I feel like my husband got short shrift and, honestly, I can't do it without him, and I felt bad about that. So, I would talk more about him."
