Ewan McGregor has a dream… and it might involve breaking the Star Wars timeline.
Starring in three prequel movies and his own prequel series apparently wasn't enough for the Obi-Wan Kenobi actor, because he's now petitioning for a role on Andor. In a panel at the 2025 edition of Fan Expo Chicago that also included fellow Jedi Academy alum Hayden Christensen, McGregor shared that he finally understands all the hype for the Diego Luna-fronted series.
"I missed it when it came out. I always come to things late," McGregor told the Aug. 17 crowd. "I watched the first episode of it at home with my little boy and then I realized what everyone was talking about."

He proceeded to binge all 24 episodes — but nobody tell his son: "I watched all of the first seasons and all of the second season just on my own without him because I just couldn't wait to get through it all," McGregor admitted. "I thought it was great. I really liked it."
Naturally, being back in a galaxy far, far away meant his mind soon drifted to thoughts of Obi-Wan, and where he might fit into the high-stakes drama of the Star Wars prequel series.
"I got really excited. I was thinking, 'I think I'm in this timeline, I think I could be in season 3!' And I got super excited," McGregor recalled. "And then I realized, 'Oh no… There can't be a season 3!'"
Arguing that Obi-Wan could've "squeezed in there" had Andor run just a season longer, McGregor then made his plea directly to the studio, adding, "Come on Disney! What are we waiting for? Let's go! What are we doing?!"
But as anyone who's seen the Andor finale already knows, McGregor's cameo must remain a pipe dream. The show served as a direct prequel to 2016's Rogue One, which (spoiler alert ) ends where Star Wars: A New Hope begins. Luna's Cassian Andor is among those killed on Scarif when the Death Star fires at the planet's surface. In other words: there can't be an Andor season 3, because the loop has been closed.
And, not to shatter McGregor's dream even further, but Andor mastermind Tony Gilroy has made it abundantly clear that after telling Cassian's story, he's content with moving on from the franchise.

"It's not really part of my plan," Gilroy told Collider in March when asked about returning for another Star Wars project. "I've been peripherally involved for 10 years and intensely involved for six years, so that's a pretty big chunk of my life. There are other things to do."

On the bright side, Andor is readily available for binging and has the approval of both Star Wars diehards and franchise actors. Just like McGregor, The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal jumped at the chance to heap praise on the recently-concluded series. Sharing the show's poster on Instagram earlier this month, he wrote, "Unforgivably late to this party. The best political thriller series maybe ever?"
Andor chronicles Cassian's transformation from cynical thief to devoted Rebel hero, as he marches towards his Rogue One destiny. Along the way, his story intertwines with Imperial agents, everyday citizens, future Rebel leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and a growing network of Rebel spies. The series is up for 14 Emmys at the 2025 awards show, including for Outstanding Drama Series.
