Red Bull cliff diver Molly Carlson has pulled out of her latest competition series after a nearly catastrophic misstep sent her tumbling several stories into the ocean.

On Saturday, June 28, the 26-year-old athlete shared footage of the accident — which she called the "scariest moment of my life" — with her 4.5 million social media followers between Instagram and TikTok. In overlaying text, Carlson explained that she slipped off the high diving platform, which towers at 22 meters (around 72 feet), while competing in Italy.

"One of my nightmares came true," the Canadian influencer wrote in her caption. Due to the incident, Carlson announced that she will not be moving onto the second stop of Red Bull's cliff diving world series.

In the video, she can be seen approaching the end of the ledge on her toes. When Carlson hopped up to begin her dive, she appeared to land improperly and fall off the platform. Before hitting the water, Carlson did manage to flip her body so her feet hit the water first.

"I never imagined in my life that I would ever slip off of a high diving platform but it happened," she continued in her post. Though frightened, Carlson expressed her gratitude for the fact that she isn't more injured after the slip.

"I'm SHOCKED at my reflex skills to find my feet like a cat and be okay. Unfortunately on the takeoff I got a massive bruise on my foot," she shared, adding of her decision to end her current competitive run, "I considered powering through and diving on it but it just wasn't the right choice for my health."

One day after her initial announcement, Carlson posted another video of her fall from a different vantage point and set the clip in slow motion.

"This new angle of my near death experience is insane," she wrote. "This angle really helped me understand that my toes were already going to be past the platform when I landed because I didn't measure my run up with 100% power. And then when I went for the dive I gave it 200% power 🫣."

She concluded by confirming she's feeling "okay" overall. "I will definitely learn from this," Carlson captioned her second Instagram Reel.

Despite her sidelined state for the time being, she applauded her fellow competitors for their diving performances. "Can't wait to be back up there with you ❤️," she wrote.
