If Monday night was the final time MLB fans get to see Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw on a mound, it was a fitting end to a legendary career.

Kershaw, who announced in September this would be his last season in baseball, was called upon to get arguably the biggest out of the contest during a tense, 18-inning Game 3 of the World Series.

With the game tied in the 12th inning, the Blue Jays started to rally. A walk, an intentional walk and an infield single loaded the bases for Toronto. Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan managed two outs in the inning, but was running on fumes after a gutty relief appearance.

That set the stage for Kershaw's World Series moment. With the bases loaded and the Dodgers needing just one out, the 37-year-old Kershaw got the call.

The decision to turn to Kershaw in that moment was far from a sure thing. Despite Kershaw's status as the greatest pitcher of his generation, the veteran got by on experience and guile in the regular season. After missing time early in the season, Kershaw returned to the mound in May and somehow managed a 3.36 ERA despite a declining strikeout rate and a fastball that averaged 89 mph.

It was a gutty regular-season performance, though one that did not guarantee Kershaw a spot on the Dodgers' World Series roster. But manager Dave Roberts showed faith in the long-time vet, awarding Kershaw a roster spot even though the pitcher was unlikely to start a game.

But Roberts found the ideal situation in which to use Kershaw on Monday. If he could get one out — against lefty Nathan Lukes — Kershaw could keep the Dodgers' hopes alive and carve out yet another milestone moment in a career full of them.

To add to the drama, Kershaw battled Lukes to a 3-2 count. One mistake would give the Blue Jays the lead in extras. Despite missing with his next pitch, Kershaw managed to get Lukes to swing. Lukes fouled the ball off, setting up an eighth pitch of the at-bat.

This one was also thrown out of the strike zone, but Lukes offered at it anyway, tapping a slow dribbler to second base. The ball had an exit velocity of just 55.3 mph, enough time for Lukes to potentially beat it out.

Lukes booked it out of the box, and was flying down the first-base line trying to reach base before Tommy Edman could make a play. It was close, but Edman pulled it off. He reached the ball in time and flipped it with his glove to first baseman Freddie Freeman in time for the out.

It was a tense moment, one perfectly captured by Kershaw's wife Ellen's reaction.

— MLB (@MLB) October 28, 2025

It was far from the best play made by Edman on the night. He was part of a rally-killing putout in the ninth inning and a potentially game-winning relay in the 10th. Edman's defense almost certainly saved the Dodgers from a loss multiple times in the contest.

Kershaw only had one opportunity to make his presence felt in Game 3. He was removed from the contest after getting that one out. It wasn't a long outing, but it made the biggest impact.

After the game, which the Dodgers won 6-5 thanks to a walk-off home run by Freddie Freeman, Kershaw shared his thoughts on pitching in the World Series one more time.

"I'll remember moments like this... I can't believe I'm getting to be in another World Series at Dodger Stadium."Clayton Kershaw shared his emotions after the Dodgers' WILD 18-inning victory.#WorldSeries | #Dodgers pic.twitter.com/uj7V4kCLvP

— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) October 28, 2025

Given the state of the Dodgers' pitching staff after Game 3, it's possible Kershaw gets another World Series appearance before his career comes to an end. After throwing just eight pitches Monday, Kershaw is among the freshest arms in the Dodgers' bullpen ahead of Tuesday's Game 4.

Monday's appearance had all the pomp and circumstance of a legend's final outing before walking off into the sunset, but the Dodgers might need one more gritty performance from Kershaw before he's allowed to call it a career.

Drag is magic. But it's also tragic if you're Ariel Versace on the receiving end of a hilarious pop off in the midst of Wig Gate.

*RuPaul's Drag Race* season 11 winner Yvie Oddly and Miss Congeniality Nina West stopped by the most recent episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast to tell hosts Joey Nolfi and Jillian Sederholm about a particularly testy, unaired moment that saw the latter queen — regarded as one of the kindest, gentlest souls in the RuGirl family — losing it in the middle of the season's most peculiar controversies.

"Wig Gate was such a big thing for our season," West said, as Oddly chimed in about the "so stupid" moment that, in the simplest of terms, sort of (but then later sort of didn't) involve various queens being accused of stealing Versace's wigs after her elimination. Tensions flared up over the confusion when the previously eliminated queens returned to the Werk Room for the perennial makeover challenge. "I completely lost my cool. All of those girls came back on my elimination episode," West recalls. "At this point, I was really raw. I had a feeling that this just might be my time, I was like, I think I'm going home. It was right when those girls walked in, and Ariel looked over at my station and she goes, 'That's my wig!' and I completely lost my s---. I don't think there were any cameras on me. I was like, I don't know why she would accuse me of stealing, I don't need to steal! Ariel and I have obviously talked about it since, because I popped off as the most Nina West pop off I've ever done."

Oddly also remembers the moment with a laugh, mimicking West's tone as she delivered a fatal, verbal blow to Versace after the accusation: "You cut her off immediately like, 'No, no, no, no, sweetie! That's *my* wig. It, unfortunately, *looks* like it's styled like one of your wigs!'"

Elsewhere on the episode, Oddly discusses an update on her overall health and the status of her Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, what her hot dad has been up to in quarantine, the difficulties queens of color face after graduating from the show, and another tense moment with that dreaded magician who guest-starred on the magic show challenge episode.

By Greg Bensinger

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders on Tuesday called on Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos to account for what the Vermont independent said were hundreds of thousands of potential lost jobs due to automation.

"If Amazon succeeds on its massive automation plan, it will have a profound impact on blue-collar workers throughout America and will likely be used as a model by large corporations throughout America," Sanders wrote in a letter to Bezos, which was exclusively reviewed by Reuters.

Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats, was referring to a New York Times article published earlier this month that cited documents and interviews showing that Amazon executives believe 500,000 jobs could be cut over time by replacing warehouse workers with robots. Amazon employs 1.55 million people, the majority of whom are hourly workers.

An Amazon spokesperson said the company had no immediate response to the letter. However, Amazon has said its automation goals are to assist workers and create new jobs.

On Monday, Reuters reported Amazon planned to cut as many as 30,000 corporate jobs beginning Tuesday, as it pares expenses. It announced an initial cut of some 14,000 jobs tied in part to efficiency gains from its use of artificial intelligence software, according to a note posted to the company's website.

In the letter, Sanders asked Bezos whether Amazon planned to provide laid-off workers with sufficient severance payments and some continuation of their health-care coverage. He also noted that Amazon workers have received federal subsidies for food, housing and health care and the company has received "billions of dollars" in federal contracts.

"What are Amazon's plans to provide help and support for the many hundreds of thousands of workers you'll be replacing with robots and AI?" said Sanders, referring to artificial intelligence software.

Bezos is now executive chairman and no longer runs day-to-day operations at Amazon after the company appointed Andy Jassy as chief executive in 2021. Jassy said earlier this year that advancements in AI would lead to a shrinking corporate workforce at the Seattle-based firm.

Sanders has frequently sparred with Amazon and Bezos, particularly over warehouse working conditions, but also what he has called union-busting tactics.

Patrick Mahomes overcame the worst start to a game in his storied career to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a 28-7 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.

Mahomes threw two interceptions on the first two Chiefs drives of Monday's game, the first time that's happened during his time in the NFL.

But after that slow start – Kansas City head coach Andy Reid called the first half "weird" – Mahomes and the Chiefs offense seemed to click into gear at Arrowhead Stadium.

A one-yard touchdown run from Kareem Hunt broke the deadlock with 5:46 left in the second quarter before the Commanders leveled the score with back-up QB Marcus Mariota connecting with Terry McLaurin. In the second half, Kansas City scored 21 unanswered points to romp to a comfortable victory.

Mahomes ended the game with 299 passing yards and three touchdown throws – one apiece to Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice and Hunt – and explained that, after a slow start to the year, the Chiefs as a whole are improving.

"It shows the growth that we've had as a team," the 30-year-old told reporters. "Offense, defense and special teams, I think we're getting better and better each and every week.

"Even though we didn't start the way we wanted to today offensively, it showed that we can battle through adversity and still continue to play the brand of football that we want to play. We'll have to continue to get better and better."

The victory was the Chiefs' fifth win in their last six games as they surge back from an 0-2 start to the season.

The team now boasts a healthy compliment of offensive weapons for Mahomes to target, with all of Kelce, Rice, Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown providing different aspects for the team to utilize.

The return of Worthy from an injury and Rice from a six-game suspension has allowed Kelce to thrive with the space those speedy receivers make for him.

The 36-year-old had six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown against Washington and is back to providing an important safety blanket target for Mahomes.

His score on Monday was his 83rd total NFL touchdown, tied with Priest Holmes for the most in Chiefs franchise history. It was also his 80th career touchdown catch, becoming just the fifth tight end in league history to reach that mark.

Kelce has looked revitalized in 2025. - David Eulitt/Getty Images

The Chiefs, now with a 5-3 record, face a difficult few weeks of games which will prove if they are truly back to their best. They first travel to play the Buffalo Bills in Week 9 and then after a bye, go to Colorado to meet their AFC West rivals, the Denver Broncos, and then host the high-flying Indianapolis Colts.

"This is going to be a great challenge this next week and we'll have to start faster," Mahomes said, "but I was proud of how the guys responded in that second half."

For the Commanders, they slip to 3-5 having had to play for the third time this season without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels through injury.

Daniels missed Monday's game with a hamstring injury and, in his absence, Mariota struggled to move the offense consistently, throwing one touchdown but two interceptions.

The run game also suffered in Daniels' absence, with the team only able to rack up 60 yards on the ground.

Having lost in the NFC Championship to the eventual Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles last year, it's a disappointing campaign for Washington but getting its star second-year quarterback healthy again will be the top priority.
