Disney fans rejoice, Test Track is back open at EPCOT!

On Tuesday, July 22, the iconic Walt Disney World attraction reopened after a 13-month long refurbishment. Disney announced in September 2023 that the ride, which first opened in 1999 and has already undergone one major update in 2012, would close for an extended period to make way for some highly anticipated improvements. It officially went down in June 2024.In the latest version, Disney teases that fans should "get ready for an unforgettable joyride where the thrill of the open road meets the innovation of the future" Riders of the new and improved attraction will "get a glimpse into the future of mobility and the cities of tomorrow before zooming off on an electrifying, high-speed race that will leave your imagination soaring."

According to the official Disney Parks blog, the attraction includes an all-new musical score and "new scenes that highlight technology making our cars smarter and our lives more fun." In one of the scenes, Walt Disney Imagineers installed over 29,000 points of light to demonstrate how advanced car sensors "see" the world.

The attraction is presented by General Motors and guests have a chance to see the company's latest innovations after the ride in the Vehicle Showcase.

When Disney first announced the updates, they promised "the queue will feature six distinct exhibits" that "celebrate the vehicles – and people behind the vehicles," per a blog post.

While it's changed multiple times to stay current with the latest in automotive technology, the ride remains Disney World's fastest with a top speed of 65 mph.

While Disney fans in Florida can enjoy the return of a classic attraction, park-goers on the West Coast can try something entirely new.

On July 17, Disneyland opened its doors to the "Walt Disney — A Magical Life" attraction on Main Street. The new show inside the Main Street Opera House includes a 15-minute film about Walt Disney's life before lifting the curtain to reveal an Audio-Animatronic of the company's namesake.

According to a press release, this is the first time Disney Imagineers have recreated the animator in animatronic form. Teams put in more than seven years of work on the project, but the idea has been around for decades. On social media, Disney Parks shared clips of the attraction. Some commenters praised the technology, while others had harsher words.

"[Ten] seconds in and hearing his voice already got me teary," wrote one approving Instagram user.

"Faces are extremely hard to get on point!" wrote another. "I think they did a great job! Especially with moving parts!"

Others were left wanting more.

"Walt is turning in his grave. He sought out the best Lincoln audio animatronic and this is how you portray him with all of the tech in the world?" one user questioned. "Redo it."

Disney, who had a fascination with Abraham Lincoln, was destined to deliver a realistic portrayal of the president for Disneyland's "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" attraction. Following its initial run, "Walt Disney — A Magical Life" will play in rotation with "Great Moments" at the Main Street Opera House.
