Bobby Flay says most people won't cook for him — except Jon Hamm's wife, who brought a sour cherry crisp to his July 4th BBQ

He joked with Jimmy Fallon, who nervously offered to make him a hamburger

Flay's top burger tip: flip once and let the grill do the work

Bobby Flay reveals the one person who seems not to shy away from cooking for him.

On the Thursday, July 18, episode of The Tonight Show, the Food Network star, 60, spoke about his July 4 festivities, where he hosted a barbecue at his home — since no one wants to host a celebrity chef at theirs.

"People don't want to cook for me, so I have to invite all of my friends over to my house," Flay told host Jimmy Fallon, 50, before asking Fallon if he would cook for him.

"I would totally cook for you," Fallon said without hesitation, but stumbled to respond with a dish before adding, "A hamburger."

Flay then shared the one person who always politely brings a dish to his house for gatherings, whereas others are seemingly intimidated.

"I just had a bunch of people over my house for July 4th weekend," Flay began, before Fallon cut in to quip, "I didn't get the email," as he jokingly looked around his desk. Flay quickly hopped in, adding to the joke that Mad Men star John Hamm, 54, took his seat.

"But I don't want to talk about him, I want to talk about his wife, Anna [Osceola]. She's amazing," said Flay. "Whenever she comes over, she always brings dessert. So she made this sour cherry crisp for everybody, it was absolutely spectacular. But she was the only one that brought food. Everyone else is like, 'Feed me, Bobby. Let's go.'"

Fallon pointed out that people "probably feel pressure" when cooking for Flay, to which the famed chef says, "They shouldn't, I'm just like everybody else."

He then goes on to share a culinary tip for all grillers who want a perfectly cooked hamburger.

"You want to flip [a hamburger] one time," Flay reveals.

"What happens is — the same guys who say they can grill, they don't cook all year long, but as soon as it's grilling season, they're like, 'We got this,' and they put on the hat and the toolbelt and the whole thing. And they go out to the grill, and they're like, 'I got this,' but they have to be grilling, so they flip and turn, flip and turn, flip and turn, and that's how you get greyed, grilled food."

The chef continued, "You want the grill to do its job. Get it nice and crusty, just let it flip once."
